Chicago Day 1 - 06/16/2011

Today we pulled out of Springfield and headed to Chicago.  We stopped at a church to hook the truck up on the dolly, and we laughed at the sign in the parking lot.

Jim drove into Chicago, with Michael's help as co-pilot.  I had to check and see what was going on behind my eyelids.  Besides never-ending fields of corn, we also passed several wind farms, which was pretty neat.

After getting settled in Chicago, we headed over to Willis Tower, formerly known as the Sears Tower, in downtown Chicago.  This is the tallest building in the country, and the third tallest in the world.  Great views from up there!

You can see for miles on a clear day, and although we were quickly approaching sunset, we still had a great view all the way around.  We were all struck by the size of Lake Michigan.  It looks more like a sea than a lake, which for those of you who have been there, already know.  I think pictures don't truly do it justice.

We visited the gift shop (of course) and the girls got silly with some of the stuff in there.

Jim always teases the kids about having a bunch of 'electronics' to play with.  He says he only had a stick and a can.  "Stick and a can, stick and a can."  So on the wall of the Skydeck, they had all sorts of things from in the early days of Chicago and compared them to things today.  In one section, they compared interactive toys.  Jim had to have a picture with it.  We all got a kick out of that.

It was a short trip into Chicago, most tourist places had already closed, so we headed back to the RV for the night.  Tomorrow is a big day with more fun in Chicago!
